Snippet Post from The Prodigal Band Aftermath: The Code (Part One)

In the previous post https://omegabooksnet.com/2026/09/29/snippet-post-from-the-prodigal-band-aftermath-the-allies-for-good-form-their-organization-to-fight-evil-part-2/, Morwenna, leader of the anti-evil organization called ‘Ana Loggers,’ reveals the method that will be used to thwart the plans of the evil trying to rule the world that will set up their beast-system that the masses will supposedly support because the masses will be convinced they are creating their own ‘happy’ world using a digitally-ruled ‘operating system’ that they think they have control over—while they will have no control at all over this ‘system.’ The method is a ‘code’ based on a medieval music notation system that was discovered by college professors in the late 1990s. However, since the possibility of infiltration by a supporter of evil could have happened within the first ‘Ana Logger’ meeting, a meeting of only Morwenna, Joe, Swinton, Agent P, Sulwynu and myself occurred on the following day, when Morwenna would begin to explain ‘the Code.’ This snippet post, from Chapter Six, dated in August, 2027, (© 2026 Deborah Lagarde), is below:

The Following Day

“I will reveal some of this code to all of you here.”

I, Joe, Swinton, Agent P and Selwynu sat at my kitchen table as Morwenna laid out a large paper onto the table, a paper that had some of the code on it.

AMCristus EMEst AMQuod EMConversatio

AMIlle EMEst AMQuod DMSermo

AMCristus BMEst AMQuod AMModum

At the top of the ‘code’ was this: ‘Acanticum’

Selwynu blurted out, “Acanticum?” He then stood up. “’Canticum’ means ‘song,’ or something like that, in Latin. So, Morwenna, is this code in Latin?”

Murmurs from the rest of us.

“Yes,” she answered. “This code is in Latin, but with musical notes—”

“The key of ‘A’ I take it,” Selwynu responded. “The key of ‘A’ followed by ‘canticum,’ so that the song as would be sang is a ‘canticum’ in the key of A.”

Joe then said, rather loudly, “So the words to the song, or code, begin with the key that would is sang in, and then the word in Latin. But what about the ‘M’ that follows the key?”

Morwenna answered, “The ‘M’ stands for ‘major,’ as in AM meaning the key of A major. Now, if the ‘m’ was a small ‘m,’ it would mean ‘minor’.”

She then interpreted the words on the paper:

Christ is the Way (AEAE)

He is the Word (AEAD)

Christ is the path (ABAA)

She then announced, “This is all I can reveal to you all here. But I will say this regarding the code we will use—while these words along with the major key note letters will be used, some of the code will only feature the major key note letters. That way, if somehow a minion of evil does manage to interpret the code, this minion might, or, more likely, will be confused by only seeing code in major key note letters. Further, if the Tooters allow it, I might also insert symbols such as the ’at’ or ‘percentage’ computer keyboard symbols as well. Because I do know one thing. The ‘canticum’ as it is called only exists on one piece of paper, locked away in the storage compartment in a secret storage closet at St. Elbert’s College that only one or two professors are even aware of, and only I have the key to this storage compartment. So I doubt seriously that some minion of evil could ever discover or decipher this ‘code’.”

A bit of discussion followed. Then, Morwenna wrapped up the paper.

“If no one else has anything to say about this, I now announce the meeting is over.”

Indeed. And then, one by one, Joe, Swinton, Agent P, Selwynu and Morwenna left my apartment. But, on the way out, she announced, “We will meet again soon, here or somewhere else.”

In fact, only the key note letters, such as AEAE—without the M for major—were in the Code, but, as I and the others would find out shortly, numbers and dashes would also be used. The word ‘canticum’ would also find a place in this code.

At the next meeting, Morwenna would reveal the actual code—but only in parts. Only she would know the entire code, for the forces of evil would not be able to hurt her or force her to reveal it.

The next post, which will be posted sometime in late October or early November, will feature more about this ‘code.’

Born on Long Island, NY, in 1952, now live in the mountains of far west Texas. Began writing fiction stories at about 8 years old with pen and loose leaf paper, and created the characters in my Prodigal Band Trilogy as a teenager. From the 70s to the 90s I created the scenario which I believe was inspired. While bringing up and home schooling my two children I continued to work on the novels and published "Battle of the Band" in 1996 and "The Prophesied Band" in 1998. Took off the next several years to complete home schooling and also working as an office manager for the local POA. In 2016, I retired, then resumed The Prodigal Band, a FREE PDF book that tells the whole story to its glorious end. Hint: I'm a true believer in Christ and I'm on a mission from God, writing to future believers, not preaching to the choir. God gave me a talent and, like the band in my books, I am using that talent for His glory, not mine (and, like me, the band is on its own journey, only fictional.) I also wrote for my college newspaper and headed up production, was a columnist in a local newspaper in the early 2000s, and wrote for and edited "Log of the Trail," the news letter for the Texas Mountain Trail Writers, and wrote for and edited it's yearly catalog of writings, "Chaos West of the Pecos." OmegaBooks is my self-publishing sole proprietorship company founded in 1995. Other jobs included teaching secondary math, health aide, office worker, assembly line work, and free-lance writing and bookkeeping, much of it while home schooling.
